On April 11, an extraordinary event unfolded at Black Mountain Primary School (BMP) - the annual art gala showcasing the incredible talent of young artists from kindergarten to third grade.

This gala wasn’t just a celebration of art; it was a testament to the boundless creativity nestled within the youngest hearts and minds. BMP has been identified by the state of North Carolina as an A+ Arts Integrated School. The gala is a testament to the budding arts program at BMP.

“The gala gives us the chance to show parents and the community that arts integration takes place in all aspects of a BMP student’s education,” said Principal Kelly Owen. “We are the only school in Buncombe County Schools that is identified as an A+ art integrated school. We have created a positive school culture at BMP where the curriculum is taught through collaboration and multi-discipline integration, with the arts continuously woven into every child’s learning experience.”

Students, parents and staff adorned their very best sparkly dresses, suits and ties for the yearly celebration. A BMP parent serenaded guests with lovely music played on a saxophone. Families walked the halls of the school oohing and awing over the intricate artwork created by students.

“It was heartwarming to see our students dressed in their best and proudly showing off their artwork to their families,” said Ms. Owen. “Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter fill up the hallways reminds me what an amazing school and community we have. Every student feels special at the gala and is able to shine!

Ms. Owen said she and her staff look forward to growing the event each year, and look forward to making it something special that everyone will remember for years to come.
