Mr. Allison with a student.

For nearly four decades, Mike Allison has helped make Buncombe County Schools (BCS) a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming place for students and staff.

Mr. Allison has been part of the BCS family for almost 40 years, spending the majority of his career at Black Mountain Primary School (BMP). While his work can be seen in the clean hallways, classrooms, and common spaces throughout the school, his impact goes far beyond maintaining the building.

Over the years, Mr. Allison has become a familiar and trusted face for generations of Black Mountain Primary students. Whether he is preparing the school for another busy day, helping a staff member, or simply taking a moment to talk with a student, he has built meaningful relationships throughout the school community.

“Mr. Allison is truly the heart of Black Mountain Primary,” said Principal Kelly Owen. “It is hard to put into words what almost 40 years of dedication to one school means. Generations of Warponies have walked through these halls, and Mr. Allison has been here caring for this school and the people in it through all of them. He is part of the history, heart, and family of Black Mountain Primary.”

For the students who see Mr. Allison throughout their school day, he is more than the person who helps take care of their school. His kindness and willingness to connect with them have made a big impact on their experience atBlack Mountain Primary.

“I love Mr. Allison,” said student Deklin.

After nearly 40 years with Buncombe County Schools, Mr. Allison has watched countless students walk through the doors of Black Mountain Primary. His dedication to the school and the people inside it continues to be an important part of what makes BMP a special place.

“I’ve been very thankful for having the best job around for 39 years,” Mr. Allison said. “I love the kids, and what this school means to me. BMP is a very special place.”

In honor of National Custodians Day, Buncombe County Schools proudly recognizes Mr. Allison and all of the dedicated custodians across our district. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every day. They help ensure our buildings are clean, welcoming and safe places where students can learn and staff can thrive.
